History

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service began its operation in 1977 as a non-profit agency. The agency was established to provide outpatient services to residents of Lackawanna County suffering from the effects of drug/alcohol abuse and chemical dependence. The small outpatient clinic that was housed in the Scranton State General Hospital was staffed with three counselors serving lower Lackawanna County. At the time, DATS worked with an average monthly caseload of 75 patients.

Since the early years, DATS has slowly expanded to become the state-designated provider for drug and alcohol counseling covering all of Lackawanna County and one of the largest outpatient service providers in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. DATS staff has grown to 30 clinical staff with an average monthly caseload of 700 patients.
